North Mara commenced commercial production in 2002. It operates as a combined open pit and underground mining operation, extracting ore from two main deposits: the Gokona underground deposit and the Nyabirama open pit deposit. The on-site processing plant holds a robust capacity to process an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
Key Responsibilities
As a Quality Controller within the operational team, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the standard of quality, precision, and adherence to structural protocols within the drill and blast section. Core duties include:
- Area Demarcation: Ensuring that all designated blasting zones are properly demarcated and cleared for operations.
- Explosives Handling: Safely managing, storing, and handling explosives on the bench according to strict site regulations.
- Drill Hole Validation: Dipping drilled holes to measure depths and verify that final design parameters are fully achieved before charging.
- Priming Operations: Priming the structural drill holes properly with bulk explosives to prepare for safe detonation.
- Stemming Quality Control: Checking initial and final stemming height during the charging process to optimize energy confinement.
- Blasting Safety Protocols: Acting as a designated Blast Guard when required, maintaining operational housekeeping, and performing all other supervisor-assigned duties.
Required Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for review, applicants must meet the following baseline criteria:
- Education: Possession of a Certificate of Secondary Education (Form Four/Six) or a higher academic qualification.
- Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of active experience working within a drill and blast section or a large-scale open pit mining environment.
- Driving Licence: Must possess a valid Tanzanian driving licence with proven capability to drive manual transmission/stick shift vehicles.
- Safety Awareness: A robust background in occupational safety with the ability to safely drive and work within high-risk operational environments.
- Communication: High proficiency in English, encompassing strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Technical Acuity: Strong troubleshooting abilities, attention to detail, and the technical skill to read and interpret complex schematics.
